Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 9, 2026
This policy explains what data the Beer Counter Social app (iOS) processes, why, and what you can do about it. Beer Counter is made by an independent developer, listed as the seller on its App Store page. For any privacy question, write to support@beercounter.social.
Summary
- We only keep what you need to use the app: your account, your beer list, your check-ins, your groups and what you post.
- We don't sell your data, we don't show ads and we don't track you across other companies' apps.
- You can delete your account and your data in the app at any time: Profile → Settings → Delete account.
What data we process
Account
- The name you choose and an avatar.
- If you sign in with email: your email address.
- If you sign in with Apple or Google: the identifier those services give us and, if you share them, your name and email. With Apple's "Hide My Email" we only receive a relay address.
Your beer list
- The beers you add, the ones you create (name, brewery, country, style, ABV, photo), favorites, ratings, photos and the date you say you tried each one.
- Your "Want to try" list.
Check-ins. When you log a beer you're drinking, we store the details you add:
- date, rating, how it was served and tastes;
- the place (name and coordinates of the place you pick, or "at home");
- the price and currency;
- a note and a photo.
Everything except the beer and the date is optional.
Groups and events
- The group's name and picture.
- For private groups, its password.
- The members and, for each event, how many beers each one adds and when.
- Public groups also have the location their creator chose.
- Other members of a group see your name, avatar and counts in that group.
Map posts
- The text, title, photo and location of your posts, together with your name and avatar.
- Comments and likes.
- They are visible to every user of the app.
Reports, blocks and messages
- The reports you send about content, the users you block and the messages you send us from the app.
Technical data
- Your device's notification token (to send you notifications) and the notification topics you're subscribed to.
- App usage statistics (screens and actions, device model, iOS version, approximate country) through Google Analytics for Firebase, without the advertising identifier.
- App error messages.
Purchases
- Payments are handled by Apple; we never see your card.
- To know whether you have Premium, RevenueCat receives your app user identifier and the purchase history Apple shares with it.
Device permissions
- Location: to show you the map, nearby public groups and places when you check in. A location is only stored when you choose it: when you post on the map, create a public group or add a place to a check-in.
- Camera: to scan labels. The text is read on your iPhone; the scanner image is never uploaded. If you take a photo for your list, a check-in, a group or a post, that photo is uploaded.
- Photos: only to pick a photo you want to upload.
- Notifications: for app and challenge notifications. The Lock Screen counter and the widget run on your iPhone.
You can change these permissions in iOS Settings at any time.
Why we use it and on what basis
- Providing the service (account, list, check-ins, groups, map, Premium): performance of the contract you accept by using the app.
- Notifications, location, camera and photos: your consent, given through the iOS permissions, which you can withdraw.
- Usage statistics and error reports, to improve the app, and preventing abuse and reviewing reports: legitimate interest.
- Legal obligations, where they apply.
Who we share it with
We don't sell or give away your data. These providers process it on our behalf:
- Google Firebase (Google Ireland Ltd. / Google LLC): sign-in, database, photo storage, notifications and statistics.
- RevenueCat, Inc.: subscription and purchase management.
- Apple: Sign in with Apple, payments and maps.
- Google: Sign in with Google.
Some of these providers may process data outside the European Economic Area, for example in the US. They do so with the safeguards the law requires, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.
What you post on the map and share in a group is seen by other users, as explained above.
How long we keep it
For as long as you have an account. When you delete it in the app, we delete:
- your account and profile;
- your list, check-ins and "Want to try" list;
- your map posts and comments;
- your group memberships.
Beers you added in group events are kept without your name, so the group's totals don't change. Backups rotate and disappear over time. Reports and messages you sent us are kept for up to 2 years.
Your rights
You can request access, rectification, erasure, portability, restriction of or objection to the processing of your data by writing to support@beercounter.social. You can do much of this yourself in the app: edit your profile, delete beers or check-ins, or delete your account.
If you think we haven't handled your request properly, you can complain to your country's data protection authority (in Spain, the AEPD).
Minimum age
Beer Counter is about beer and is only for people aged 18 or over, or the legal drinking age in your country if higher. We don't knowingly collect data from minors. If we find an account belonging to a minor, we delete it.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and stored on Google Firebase infrastructure. Access rules prevent one user from modifying another user's data. No system is perfect: if we find a problem that affects you, we'll let you know.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above and, if the change is significant, let you know in the app.
